Man in custody after Seneca robbery

A man is in custody accused of robbing a convenience store in Seneca.

The incident happened around midnight at the Big Daddy’s convenience store. A man attempted to buy alcohol, but his card was declined. He then demanded money from the clerk and threatened him with a knife. As the man was leaving with money, the clerk followed him out and fired a gun towards the suspect.

He was identified as 18 year old Leighton Quapaw of north Miami. Around six this morning, law enforcement made contact with him in Miami and arrested him. He was transported to the Ottawa County Jail. Charges have been submitted to the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office.
