◽️ Adding to the confusing event(s)? On the sidewalk in plain view, two guns and a kevlar/bulletproof vest. ◽️ Moral of the Story: You have a right to protect your property however it’s not your right to pursue someone across town and discharge a firearm killing someone’s tire.
(64804) — 12:50 PM Friday afternoon report of shots fired at 5002 South Main in Joplin. Joplin Police tell us that an off-duty officer happened to be a witness to some of the confrontation between two individuals in two separate vehicles.
The off duty Joplin Police officer was working part-time across the parking lot at Hideout Harley Davidson. He detained those involved at gunpoint and disarmed one man involved.
In our Joplin News First live video you can see the weapon on the ground behind the crime scene tape and on the sidewalk.
A Joplin News First insider told us initially they thought it was a bondsman taking someone in custody. On the sidewalk you see two guns and a kevlar/bulletproof vest one man was wearing.
Capt Trevor Duncan updates us Friday evening. The confrontation began at a residence where the driver of the truck resides. It escalated as the van left the property and the truck gave chase.
JPD were aware of the pursuit since they were called by the driver of the pick up during the heated chase.
After spending time interviewing persons in both vehicles Capt Trevor Duncan tell us, one man was arrested for driving on a suspended license. And another man was issued a ticket to appear in court for unlawfully discharging a weapon.
Names are not being released at this time. There were no injuries. The victim today was the left rear tire of the mini-van that was shot out in the parking lot.
The investigation is still open at this point. However what do we take away from today’s events? You have a right to protect your property however it’s not your right to pursue someone across town and discharge a firearm killing someone’s tire. #joplinnewsfirst #KSN16 #KODE12
