Tornado sirens where you live and work for outdoors, local media and weather radios for indoors

Local News

◽️ These are outdoor sirens — warning people outdoors. The sirens are not made to penetrate your home with all the windows shut tight. ◽️ For indoors monitor local media (Ray Foreman KODE) and have a weather radio set with alerts. ◽️ See the map below where your tornado siren is located near where you work/live. Listen for them.

(64801/64804) — This week is severe weather awareness week. Tuesday at 10:00 AM the statewide test sounded and Shannon Becker was live at Dover Hill (see live video below).  The city of Joplin have all necessary siren information on their website. They are called outdoor warning sirens. They were not supposed to penetrate your home with sound. That’s why you should have a weather radio and monitor local media.

“The sirens are outdoor warning devices that are used to alert people who are out of doors to go indoors and seek shelter,” the city of Joplin states on their website.

Historically we can all remember, “these sirens were installed to warn citizens in the event of an attack on our nation by a foreign power,” IE the 50s when everyone was afraid of atomic bomb attacks?

But now outdoor sirens are used to warn people outside of a dangerously high wind weather event, including tornadoes and thunderstorms. #JoplinNewsFirst #KODE12 #KSN16
