Three arrested for burglary because neighbor noticed suspicious activity and called police

Local News

Around 2:00 PM Thursday Joplin Police Department received a call regarding suspicious activity at a home on the SW corner of 22nd and Schifferdecker.

“On 11-29-2018 at 1:56pm the Joplin police department received a call of a burglary in progress at 2206 South Schifferdecker. A neighbor witnessed a vehicle pulling a trailer at the residence along with 2 females and a male,” Capt Trevor Duncan tells Joplin News First.

“The neighbor recognized the three didn’t belong there and saw them taking items out of the house and putting them on the trailer and then the vehicle leave.”

Joplin Police Department officers had a description of the vehicle and trailer to match, and located it at 20th and Bird and stopped it.

After detaining the subjects and investigating for a short time on the scene (see attached exclusive images), all three were arrested for burglary.

-Shawna L. Brewster, 41, Miami, OK

-Roy N. Kinney, 34, Miami, OK

-Bree O’Haro, 36, Joplin (in addition to burglary O’Haro is also charged with possession of a controlled substance. A bag of suspected cocaine was found in her bra at the jail.)

All charges are being submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for filing.

This is still an ongoing investigation and further charges could be filed.

“This is a great example of neighbors looking out for neighbors and reporting suspicious people and activities.” Capt Trevor Duncan reminds us.  If you see suspicious activity you can call 24 hours a day to the non-emergency line.  417-623-3131, press 0, ask to speak to an officer.  Or if you feel it’s an emergency dial 911.
