K-9 serve a department on the national average about 7 years as long as they are not injured in service.  K-9 is a large part of our Joplin Police Department and also the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

Today it’s a block party 20th to 19th and Main at Main Street Pet Care.  They raise money to support our retired K-9 officers of the city and county forces.  Even though they aren’t serving they still have some life left in them and they get to spend the rest of their lives usually with the original officer that worked with them from the beginning.

“The bond and trust is very strong with these animals so I couldn’t imagine them not keeping them the rest of their lives,” attendee Linda from Joplin tells Joplin News First.  “I really love see the K-9 on Joplin News First!”
