Newton County Sheriff’s Office execute warrant(s) north of the Gates of Hell

Local News

A drug search of a Newton County property has now led to a possible crime scene related to the missing persons case of Sarah Burton.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office’s, with support from Joplin Police Department SWAT and other agencies, served a drug search warrant at 1174 Crane Drive in Newton County on Tuesday afternoon. While assisting in the execution of that warrant, Captain Trevor Duncan said it has become a possible crime scene related to the missing persons case of Sarah Burton.

“Newton County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI are continuing an investigation at that residence. We are in direct communication with them and have been as in pertaining to our missing persons case with Sarah Burton,” said Captain Trevor Duncan, Joplin Police Department.

More information to be released as it becomes avilable.

1174 Crane Drive is a residence and property just north of a plot of land where the Gates of Hell Spookhouse Trail was held annually.  It was a popular spook trail in the early 2000’s in northwest Newton County.

This afternoon around 3:00 PM Joplin News First began receiving tips that Joplin SWAT was gathering for an operation.  And then along East 32nd Street the same was being seen by Joplin News First tipsters of Newton County SWAT and Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Joplin News First reached out to agencies and they were all tight-lipped on operations so we sat tight and waited.

It wasn’t until well after 5:00 PM that tips came in that it was this property where warrant(s) were served and insider information let us know that it was a multi-agency operation but Newton County was at the helm.

We will update information as soon as it becomes available.
