CHANUTE, Kans. — A new head firefighter is on the job at the Chanute Fire Department.

Jeff Mitchell has been promoted to Fire Chief. The Chanute-native first started with the department in 1996, with a few years off working as a fire fighter in Iraq.

He was promoted to Captain last year and is now replacing retired Chief Kevin Jones.

Mitchell is married and has five children and one grandchild.
