(64804) — Word spread fast of a huge fireball Sunday night south of Joplin. This isn’t confirmed but people were texting and messaging Joplin News First saying they heard sirens and emergency crews going south on Rangeline toward 44th.

Explosion, fireball, emergency crews, it was all real but it wasn’t a concern.

Every fall Christ Community United Methodist holds a big party. “Food, hayrides, games, bonfire , and fireworks. Anniversary of the founding of our church,” Chris Sloan Senior Minister told us.

It was scheduled three weeks ago, “postponed due to a lot of rain, but we just went with fireworks tonight.”

“Next time please warn me!” Shannon Becker of #JLNews messaged to Sloan.

It was a professional fireworks show including the final effect, an ominous mushroom cloud explosion.
“It’s rigged as the same kind of gas cannon as they use in Hollywood for the special effects.”

28 years in Joplin, Happy Anniversary Christ Community United Methodist Church. Sloan replied, “Thank you, we have a lot of chapters yet to be written.”
