JOPLIN, Mo. — In a second release sent Tuesday JPD identified the deceased victim of Monday’s shooting.

The victim found deceased at the scene by JPD has been identified as Kenney Jay Mathews, 46, of Joplin. An autopsy for Mathews is set for Friday, May 20th in Ozark. In their release, JPD notes that they exhausted all attempts in contacting Mathews’ next of kin.

The name of the second victim, who remains in critical condition, has not been released at this time.

UPDATE: Dark-colored vehicle fled fatal Joplin shooting

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Police Department is providing more updates into Monday’s shooting that left one man dead.

In a release sent Tuesday, JPD specified that a “dark colored passenger vehicle” served as the getaway car for the suspects who fled the scene.

Two victims were located Monday evening, with one deceased as officers arrived. The other gunshot victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital. Their names are being withheld at this time.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Police respond to a shooting that sent one man to the hospital, while leaving another man dead on a residential street.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. (5/16), several officers with the Joplin Police Department (JPD) responded to the intersection of 5th Street and Connor Avenue, following a 9-1-1 call about a shooting at that intersection.

Captain William Davis with the Joplin Police Department said when officers arrived on the scene, they found two male victims, both suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

One of the men was taken to a local hospital, while the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the two gunshot wound victims are not being released at this time.

Captain Davis said JPD does not have any suspect information.

Investigators are currently processing the crime scene, conducting interviews, gathering information, and collecting evidence.
