Joplin Police reveal names of those arrested in patrol’s drug haul

Joplin News First acting on tips received heard about some intense police activity at the Fairfield Marriott, 3301 S Rangeline Road, Saturday night. In following up on tips we broke the story first and now information JPD release official information in more detail.

Joplin Police Patrol officers were tipped that some behavior in the parking lot of the hotel looked questionable. When patrol arrived to the property the persons were familiar to patrol.

Three people were taken into custody outside the Marriott. Joplin Police Department Capt Trevor Duncan told us,

“The first female had 30 grams of crystal meth and a male had a little over 100 grams of crystal meth.”

The third person attempted to flee police patrol on foot. As he was pursued he attempted to discard a loaded handgun in a gas station bathroom. That handgun was found to be reported stolen in Joplin.

It was discovered the 3 were associated with a room in the hotel. JPD Patrol officers waited in the parking lot while a search warrant for that hotel room was obtained.

“Upon entering the hotel room a second female was in the room and arrested with 4 grams of heroin and 150 grams of crystal meth,” Duncan states.

Aaron Sutten- Newton County Trafficking 2nd Degree 5,000 cash bond, Parole/Probation violation no bond, JCSO felony FTA delivery of a controlled substance $10,000 surety 

Shawna Smith- Newton County Trafficking 2nd Degree $2,000 cash bond.

Joseph Hood – Newton County Felon in Possession of a Firearm $1,000 cash bond

Kiley McDonald- Newton County Trafficking 2nd $5,000 cash bond, NCSO felony FTA leaving the scene of an accident $1,000 bond
