Local families welcome in New Year’s babies

Two babies were born at Freeman Hospital West to ring in 2017, including Todd Patrick Allen, Jr.
“It’s exciting. We really weren’t expecting it, but he’s here,” laughed newborn parents Raven and Todd Allen.
Baby Todd arrived at 6:17 Sunday night. He was welcomed by parents Raven and Todd allen of Neosho. Baby TJ, as he’s being called, weighed 6 lbs, 1 oz and measured 19.5 inches in length.
Everyone seems to be excited about Baby Todd, but the parents say his sister isn’t very happy about his arrival.
“She cried and, I mean, she gave him a kiss, but she cried. She didn’t want anything to do with him,” explained Raven Allen.
Mercy Hospital Joplin also welcomed its first baby girl of the year. She was two days late, but Elle Marie Mathews finally made her debut at 8:42 Monday morning.
“Taking a break would have been nice, but beggars can’t be choosers so,” said newborn parent Cody Mathews.
Baby Elle is seven pounds and eleven ounces. She was welcomed by proud parents Shelby and Cody Mathews of Joplin.
“The morning of the 1st, and I guess she wasn’t ready, so they sent us home. We came back about 7 hours later, and here we are,” Cody Mathews added.
All babies received gift baskets filled with toys and stuffed animals. One gift the Mathews received was a car seat, which they say was much need.
“[We] probably would have just had to transfer one car seat from one car to the next one,” explained newborn parent Shelby Mathews.
