Lifelong Pittsburg resident turns 100

What better place to hold your 100th birthday, than in the building that bears your name?

Family, friends, current and former students gathered at the Overman Student Center on the PSU campus to wish Jack Overman a happy hundredth birthday. The lifelong Pittsburg resident went to Pitt State and later worked for the university as the director of the student center. His son Steve Overman says his dad’s lifelong association with the university as well as numerous other organizations is one of the secrets to living such a long and happy life.

“Being here and the associations he’s made with people over the years through both the University and the civic organizations he’s been in have really been what’s kept him going and has him out there wide eyed and greeting people,” says Steve Overman.

Overman and his signature cow bell have been fixtures over the years at Pitt State athletic events. He’s even fired the opening shot at Roaring River State Park to signal the start of trout season.
