A Lamar veteran memorial is complete in time for the first home high school football game.
The memorial, located at the south end of the high school football field, is dedicated to 6 students who lost their life in the Vietnam War. Lamar students of the class of 1968 put the old memorial together, and they invited the community to participate in the renovations for a new flag pole and memorial.
The superintendent of the school says the veteran display allows the students and staff to understand the sacrifices made by the ones before them.
“I think the memorial will provide them an opportunity not only to get to know those that are recognized on the memorial, but also just bring awareness to what so many folks have done for our country,” says Dr. Zach Harris.
The memorial cost thousands of dollars to update. It was all paid for with donations from the community.
