A federal judge says Uncle Sam owes the state of Kansas millions of dollars from payments related to the Affordable Care Act.
A release from Attorney General Derek Schmidt says a federal judge has ruled the state is owed more than $142 million dollars from the payments. Kansas and five other states sued the federal government, leading to the ruling.
Schmidt argued that the health insurance provider fee was being illegally collected from state treasurers. He says that while the ruling is a step forward, he doesn’t believe the case is over just yet, and that it will likely take a while for Kansas to receive any money.
