A Joplin standoff leads to the arrest of a man with multiple felony charges.

36 year old Brandon Funkhouser was wanted on first degree kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon. Funkhouser was staying at the Missouri Place apartment complex on 32nd Street when the landlord called the police.

Joplin PD, SWAT, and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office all arrived on scene shortly after one this afternoon. The standoff ended a couple hours later when police released tear gas to get Funkhouser to come out of the building.

“Well it was actually a relative that leased the apartment, the relative was long gone and left. The individual had no legal rights to the apartment, so the landlord was obviously trying to get him to leave,” says Chris Jennings.

Funkhouser is currently being held in the Newton County Jail.
