An area senior center is on the move, literally.
The Joplin Senior Center on 22nd and Jackson has been in the same building for more than twenty five years. But the needs of the organization have simply outgrown the 9 thousand square foot building.
The center is now moving to a new location inside Mercy Park that has more than 12 thousand square feet. And unlike the current building, the new one is specifically designed for the needs of seniors.
"That actually has a dedicated room for exercise and yoga classes, a dedicated room for all of our health services and a much more friendly to be able to do our main focus which is to provide nutrition to our seniors in our area,” says Wendy Wagaman.
While the Meals on Wheels program will still deliver lunches next week, both the old and the new Joplin senior centers will be closed all of next week. The new facility will open for business July 23rd. Seniors who normally come to the center for lunch and activities can go to either the Carl Junction or Webb City senior centers next week.
