The Joplin School District is providing $20 thousand dollars worth of scholarships to students.
This is the largest amount of money raised in a single year for the school’s scholarship fund. Since the fund was created two years ago, the amount of money has increased each year. This year, the school was able to help 20 students receive $1 thousand dollar scholarships each for their academics.
“For some of those kids it might make the difference whether they go to college or not, because even if they get an A+ scholarship that covers their tuition for the most part for the first two years, but it doesn’t cover their books. It doesn’t cover their online classes- those aren’t covered by that A+ scholarship,” says Dorothy Alsenz, Joplin Scholarship Coordinator.
If you would like to help raise money for the scholarships, there are sponsorships and signs available for businesses. You can also contact Dorothy Alsenz at the administration building.
