An area library will soon be under new management.

The Joplin Public Library has been without a head librarian since February when Jacque Gage left to take a position with the Ozark Christian College Library. Since then, Leslie Hayes and another employee have shared the title of co-director. But the search for a new leader is winding down. Hayes says the original 20 or so applicants have been paired down to 3 finalists, all of which will be in town next week.

“It’s going to be next Tuesday and Wednesday, Tuesday the 28th is going to be the day for the meet and greet with the public and then the final interviews will take place on the 29th,” says Leslie Hayes, interim co-director.

One of the three finalists is a former employee. Jeanna Gockley served as children’s librarian several years ago and is with the Springfield-Greene County Library.

The two others are Kevin Booe, who is currently the library director in Boise, Idaho and Brian Sylvester who is the library director in Rochester, New Hampshire.
