UPDATE 3: HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — On Wednesday around noon Hot Springs Police responded to reports of a suspicious package in the back of a pickup at Wal-Mart on Malvern Avenue. Now more pieces of the puzzle come together. What was evidence in a Missouri homicide 300 miles away?
“Around 12:35 PM Wedesday: “Officers discovered possible evidence in a trash bag in the back of a pick-up truck. The owner of the pickup truck was interviewed and investigators learned through video surveillance the trash bag was placed into the back of the truck at another location at a local hotel the night before by an unknown person. It was later found that the evidence is connected to a homicide in Deerfield, Missouri. The Hot Springs Police Department is now assisting [Missouri State Highway Patrol] and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department in this investigation.” HOT SPRINGS POLICE DEPARTMENT
UPDATE 2: Vernon County Sheriff’s Office update information in their homicide investigation, and release the name of the victim along with a person of interest. The victim is now identified by authorities as Connie Goodwin, 63-years-old, with an address on East Quail Road near the Kansas line.
“Aaron Goodwin [38-years-old] is being sought for abandonment of a corpse in connection with the [Wednesday, October 28,] homicide in Southwest Vernon County, Missouri. The victim [is] the mother of Aaron Goodwin. It is believed that Aaron is in the Hot Springs, Arkansas area. Anyone with information regarding the location of Aaron Goodwin can contact the VCSO communications center at (417) 667-6042.” VERNON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE
It’s believed that Goodwin traveled to Arkansas. The Hot Springs Arkansas Police Department release BOLO information regarding Goodwin.
“Goodwin is wanted by the Missouri Highway Police for Felony Abandonment of a Corpse. He is a white male, 5’8″, 140 lbs. with brown hair. He has one brown eye & one blue eye. He was last seen on 10/27/20 at approx. 8:20 PM near the 4800 blk. of Central Ave. DO NOT try to approach Goodwin, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Goodwin was last seen wearing light-colored pants, a black sweatshirt, a black ball cap and he had a beard. Goodwin was also last seen carrying a backpack. If you have any information about the location of Goodwin, please notify the Hot Springs PD or your local law enforcement agency or dial 911. HOT SPRINGS ARKANSAS POLICE DEPARTMENT
If Goodwin traveled from Vernon County, near Deerfield, Missouri, the address to his parents, he would have most-likely driven through the Joplin, Missouri, area.
VERNON COUNTY, Mo. — Wednesday reports from tipsters stated an investigation was happening southwest of Deerfield, Mo., in Vernon County. Now Thursday information is formally released from the Sheriff’s office regarding a homicide investigation.
“Investigators do not believe there is any danger to residents in the Vernon County area at this time. The name of the victim has not yet been released out of respect for the family and to allow for proper notifications.”SHERIFF JASON MOSHER, VCSO
The media release states the body was reported Wednesday morning to authorities. Investigators located the deceased at a residence on Quail Road near the Kansas state line.
Vernon County requested the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Investigations Unit, which is protocol. Additionally the Bates County Sheriff’s Office is lending support.
Tipsters told us crime scene tape and command units were set up near the residence as the investigation was beginning.
