JOPLIN, Mo. — We talked with Capt. Nick Jimenez this afternoon and he confirmed with us that next of kin has been notified and additionally no one has been arrested regarding the death of Jonas Bartholomew. It is currently still under investigation.

In a published media release on Saturday Capt Jimenez writes:

“On January 31st, 2020 JPD was dispatched to 829 S. New Hampshire Ave in reference to a flourishing of a weapon call. Upon arrival officers located a downed male in the area who had a stab wound. First aid was provided by officers until medical units arrived and transported the male to Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Joplin Police investigators responded to the scene to investigate. Initial reports state that the deceased male later identified as Jonas Bartholomew, attempted to unlawfully enter his neighbors’ home where he was stabbed and then fled. A death investigation is taking place currently. The Joplin Police Department is not seeking any other individuals in reference to this case at this time. ORIGINAL STORY FRIDAY EVENING: JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin Police Sgt Thomas Bowin tells us tonight it was shortly after 10:30 PM they responded to reports of a disturbance at 800 bk South Hampshire.

Upon arrival they found a man suffering a stab wound to the neck. The man, thought to be in his 40s, was rushed Priority One to an area hospital with a life-threatening injury.

No update on his condition at this time.

Joplin Police Detectives have arrived on the scene. The investigation is just beginning and they are talking to witnesses.

Sgt Bowin says emphatically, “There is no threat to the public. We are not seeking anyone [else] involved at this time.” When pressed further he told us it is not a self-inflicted wound.
