UPDATE: The Carl Junction Police Department reminds their residents that the neighborhoods affected by the gas outage will be Briarbrook and Country Club Estates Neighborhoods.

The shutting off of gas meters will continue until late tonight. The work on the supply line will continue through the night. It should be fixed sometime tomorrow and they will begin to get customers back online after that. It could possibly late tomorrow night before full service is restored. For safety, there will have to be someone home when they are turning the gas back on at your residence, so please plan accordingly. If needed, the Police Station can be used as a warming station. The Community Center is also open until 10 PM and if needed can be open later. Neither place has sleeping quarters, but we do have heat and seating.

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — About 10:00 AM reports were being received of an injured gas company worker near North Lone Elm and Fir Road alerting the Jasper County Emergency Communications Center.

Currently there are about 800 homes without GAS service in the area.

Carl Junction Fire Protection District, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies, and METS ambulance responded to a pressure break of a Southern Star Gas Company intermediate line just south of the intersection.

Chief Perkins of CJFD tells us the situation was under control quickly and there is no gas leak. There was one patient transported to an area hospital, suffering serious non-life threatening injuries.

The fire department is still on the scene and monitoring the situation as well as gas company workers.

We showed the following photos of today’s scene to a fire department official other than Carl Junction, as they were unavailable. They described what could occur with a pressure line break. And what is left behind is a crater from the release of pressure.

Additionally a witness who wished to remain anonymous stated that the truck that is crooked in these photos went nearly 10-15 feet into the air as the crater was formed in the displacement of that pressure.

The roadway is now shut down for an unknown amount of time.

We will update with more information as it becomes available.
