MIAMI, Okla. — Smoke visible for miles from the SW side of Miami on Monday morning around 9:30 a.m. for a commercial structure fire, 418 SW C.

Deputy Chief Kyle Highsmith of the Miami Fire Dept tells us the fire was reported at 9:37 a.m.

“As we arrived it was already fully engulfed. We were there only 10 minutes and the front wall collapsed, so it had been burning for a while.”

He says the old commercial building was used for storage. Filled with old appliances, etc.

Quapaw Tribal Fire responded as automatic mutual aid he said. Crews worked together and about 2 1/2 hours later the fire was under control.

Deputy Chief Highsmith emphasizes that no firefighters were injured fighting the fire.

Currently the cause is under investigation by the Miami Fire Dept.

Locals say the building formerly housed the business, ‘boat floaters’, however it has not been at this location for years.

Firefighters remain on scene as of 2:00 p.m. as hot spots pop up. Crews are mopping up and monitoring the ruins of the building.

Miami Fire Department is currently working a structure fire in the 500 blk of C Street SW. We are requesting that you please avoid the area to ensure that emergency vehicles have unrestricted access.”
