UPDATED TUESDAY: Capt Nick Jimenez of the Joplin Police Department tells us today the drivers identity after he was released from the hospital and now charged.

Marty Rickey, 44, charged with:

  • DWI (drugs)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Tampering with a Motor Vehicle

The small tree that assisted authorities, detaining the subject, was cut down, RIP tree.


JOPLIN, Mo. — Shortly after 10:30 AM Monday morning eyewitness reports of a black pickup driving erratically westbound on 32nd Street.

Then reports of a hit and run, leaving the scene crash near 32nd and south Main where the Higdon’s Florist van was struck. Alleged that a black pickup was involved.

Then another crash just before 11:00 AM reports of a black pickup crashed out at 3900 bk of south Kentucky. One person was transported via ambulance to a hospital with police escort. The person suffering non life-threatening injuries, Joplin Police told us.

“We attempted to stop a vehicle that was believed to be driven by an intoxicated driver. Vehicle fled and crashed. Driver sustained minor injuries. Charges are pending.”

Witnesses at 39th and Kentucky said the truck was going fast and must not have known it was a dead end. As the person got out of the truck somehow his arm got pinned by a tree as the truck rolled backwards. Police and fire had to free him cutting down the small tree.

The black Ford F150 had Oklahoma tags.
