Shooting in Carthage leaves man dead

The victim has been identified as John Cody Morgan, 30, of Carthage, Missouri. Next of Kin has been notified.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as John Cody Morgan, 30, of Carthage, Missouri. Next of Kin has been notified. His friends knew him as “Capt”. Today investigators are reviewing footage from cameras from Tuesday night and also conducting interviews.

“The suspect, name withheld, has been taken into custody and formal charges are pending with the Jasper County Prosecutors Office.”

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Shortly before 9:00 PM Tuesday night calls regarding a disturbance were coming into Emergency 911, reported location 115 N Garrison. Then a report of shots fired in the west alley of 100 block of N Garrison.

Shortly after 9:00 PM crime scene tape goes up. And detectives arrive from Carthage Police Department.

Chad Dininger of the Carthage Police Department tells us details live! about the homicide investigation.

“115 North Garrison, officers located in the west alley a victim on the ground. The victim is described as a 30-year-old male. He is a Carthage resident. The person of interest was on the scene as well. Currently we are talking to witnesses already we are knocking on doors doing a neighborhood canvas. Name of the victim and those in custody are not being released at this time. At this time it is early on in the investigation, we do believe this is an isolated incident, only involving people at this location, and not involving anyone else.”
