Police pursuit of motorcycle ends in motorcycle crash at MO-43 & Hwy C in Newton Co near Hornet.  “It could have ended much worse!” stated one of our live! followers on Joplin News First as Shannon Becker broadcast live.  

The initial report of the crash came in at 11:08 PM.  Obviously a Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy was on the scene immediately.  Within minutes the single male operator, now identified by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Monday morning as Robert D. Stevens, of Joplin, was transported via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.  

It was reported the 2007 Kawasaki ZX1000 motorcycle was being pursued by law enforcement. It’s not known what the original traffic infraction was to initiate the pursuit.  

The 27-year-old Joplin man was ejected from the bike about 20 feet. According to the report from Tpr. M.W. Coleman, motorcycle “failed to negotiate a turn at an intersection, ran off the roadway, overturned, and ejected the driver.”

Stevens was transported to Mercy hospital Joplin.  He was awake and alert in the ambulance.  According to the medical report a broken collarbone and shoulder injury reported to be minor injuries.
