Carthage Police search for missing man by boat, on land and in the air; Man’s four-wheeler discovered abandoned on the edge of Spring River

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage Police release information late Tuesday regarding a missing Carthage man. 

Leut. Chad Dininger tells us on scene that Thomas Whitaker, 67, has been missing since July 6. Friends contacted the police yesterday (July 20) so CPD immediately began a missing person investigation. 

The friend who reported him missing said Whitaker had recently purchased a four-wheeler. “So that started our search on the trails that we know, north of the city, along the river. With that search we just recovered a four-wheeler we believe that is his.”

THURSDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE.

Leut. Dininger tells us numerous agencies are involved; Missouri Department of Conservation launched a boat earlier today and were the ones who located the four-wheeler in the water. Missouri State Highway Patrol have a helicopter. Carthage Police, Detectives, Jasper County Sheriff’s office and Carthage Fire Department. 

He encourages anyone with information to contact the Carthage Police Department.  Additionally they are not looking for assistance from the public at this time. Watch the full interview at the beginning of this article.
