Joplin Head Start locations to receive playground safety upgrade

Two Joplin playgrounds will be getting a safety upgrade soon thanks to a recycling project.

A $30 thousand dollar grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources will mean a portion of the playgrounds at both Joplin Head Start locations will be getting a new, softer, landing surface.

“What they call a pour over, it’s a resilient material that’s made from 100% recycled tires and so we actually have a local vendor who will be providing that,” says Debbie Markman, Economic Security Corp. Resource Development Director.

Weather permitting, the new surface should be installed by the end of November.
