Joplin Fire Department works to restore antique firetruck

The department has owned the firetruck since 1939 and recently got it running again. The next step is getting it all cleaned up with its original paint job and ladders. This 100-foot ladder truck will eventually be used in parades and taken to schools.

Firefighters say they’re just excited to have such a cool piece of history .

“It’s actually the oldest surviving Peter Pursch 100′ Aluminum Ariel that’s still owned by the department that bought it,” explained Chief Douglas Nolan.

Nolan adds he’s hopeful they’ll get it up and running  around Christmas.
