Joplin council moves on to fill West’s seat

The Joplin city council approves Jim West’s resignation and moves on to fill his seat.

It was decided that applications for the seat will be open to the public from now until March 7th. City council will then hold a special meeting on March 11th to hear presentations from applicants on how they are qualified to fill the position. Then at the March 18th council meeting, members will select the person that will take over the seat.

“It’s something we didn’t expect. It’s something we need to take care of. It’s business that needs to be handled. And the sooner we do it be better we feel we are,” says Gary Shaw.

The new council member will complete the unexpired term, which is up for re-election in April 2020.
