Joplin city manager requests JPD to stop incident spotlight

City manager Sam Anselm has requested Joplin police to stop incident spotlight.

In an unofficial meeting, it is alleged that the city manager and JPD discussed the halt of the posts. Anselm wanted to find a solution that would inform the citizens in a different light.

Anselm explains, “I’ve encouraged the department to come up with other ideas to share information that will serve the public in a way that doesn’t add to the negativity and divisiveness that currently exists in the online world.”

As of now, the incident spotlight posts are no longer being created. The city says it will be up to the police department to find other ways to display social media content.
