The groundbreaking was held Tuesday at the southeast corner of S. Cunningham Ave. and W 26th St.

Joplin’s new independent living senior community was made possible by both state and federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs.

Total development costs of Memorial Hills are just under $10 Million with an expected completion date of December 2018.

Memorial Hills will offer 54 one and two-bedroom apartment homes ranging from $395- $620 per month to seniors.

Each apartment will include a full kitchen with energy efficient appliances, ceiling fans, hardwoodstyle flooring, and a furnished washer and dryer.

The community will also offer ample common space with an on-site management office, a computer center, fitness center and a severe weather refuge area.

Additionally, Memorial Hills residents will enjoy a furnished outdoor gathering area, walking path and green spaces.
