The Joplin community is highlighting its goods, services, educational options, and non-profit organizations.
It’s hard to visit a hundred thirty businesses, schools and organizations in the Joplin area in a day’s time. But the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce has made that much easier by putting many of them under one roof as part of the 27th annual Business Expo. And if you missed day one of the event, it continues through Wednesday at Downstream Casino and Resort’s Grand Pavilion.
“Tomorrow’s community day and that’s to bring awareness to our community what great business services are here in the region and to support and highlight what we have right in our backyard,” says Erin Slifka, Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Chamber Marketing & Public Information.
By coming to events like this, you can find out a lot more about the community than just what businesses operate here. New at the event this year are a host of educational organizations like Joplin area Catholic schools.
“We’re starting enrollment in about a month or so and we’re just want to get the word out about Joplin Area Catholic Schools and the education children can receive by going to a Catholic school,” says Marjorie Comer, Joplin Area Catholic Schools Marketing Coordinator.
And if you’re new to the Joplin area you may not realize how many notable graduates the hometown university has produced.
“Dennis Weaver, you know about Rod Smith, Brandon Williams here recently, Janet Kavandi with NASA but we also have many that represent Hollywood, that represent the DOT COM craze,” says Mike Olmstead, MSSU Univ. Relations & Marketing.
KSN and KODE also has a booth at the expo.
