The project to open a new juvenile justice center in Jasper County is expanding.
The county commission voted today to buy property across the street from the new building. They’ll spend $245 thousand dollars on the site at 602 South Pearl. Commissioners say that will add significantly to parking options for the juvenile center.
“It was just basically going to be off street parking. And so when we were able to acquire this – we think we can add between 15 and 20 parking spots,” says Darieus Adams, Jasper Co. Commissioner.
The total cost of the project is just under $11 million dollars, funded by a quarter cent sales tax approved in 2016. The new juvenile center is nearly complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony planned next month.
