Jasper County authorities investigating attempted abduction

News

Jasper County authorities are investigating an attempted abduction that occurred early this afternoon.

Authorities say around noon yesterday, a vehicle occupied by possibly three individuals entered a mobile home park east of Joplin and approached the front yard of a residence where two small children were playing. That vehicle stopped while an adult at the residence momentarily went into the house.

When that adult went back outside, they noticed the car parked in front of the residence with the rear driver side door open and an occupant calling for the kids. The adult confronted the vehicle, which drove away.

Authorities are now looking for a dark grey, four-door compact sedan, possibly a Dodge Neon or similar make and model. The car had a rear spoiler on the trunk lid and missing driver side rear hubcap or small donut spare tire.

Officials say a vehicle matching this description was seen yesterday and today at a daycare facility east of Joplin. Anyone with information should contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office at (417) 358-8177 extension 1260.
