A popular singer and songwriter is helping to clothe area people in need.
Representatives of James Taylor sent several t-shirts and mugs from his most recent concert tour to the Joplin Salvation Army. Major Beckie Stearns says Taylor heard about a program at the center called “Shower the People” which is the name of one of his most popular songs. Stearns says it’s a nice gesture that someone of Taylor’s status thought enough of the program to send some of his items.
“They said they didn’t have toiletries because that’s what we were requesting back in April but they have t-shirts and mugs that they would like to give us and so we said sure, we’ll take them and so they have recently sent them to us,” says Major Beckie Stearns.
Stearns says the people using the center’s old shelter for showering or using the washer and dryer will be the recipients of the items. She says the program has become so popular that they hope to add another shower and washer and dryer machines to go along with the one already up and running.
