Touring the state may not be an unusual goal for a 30 or 40 year old – but today a Show Me State five year old made Joplin part of her lengthy trip.
Waynesville kindergartner Taylor Duncan met with Joplin Mayor Gary Shaw. Duncan has made it her goal to go to every Missouri city and meet with the mayor. So far she’s met 117 mayors and learned about each city while traveling across the state. The pair met at Sweet Carolines on Main.
“We do homeschooling and so we were studying and leering about the state of Missouri and kind of setting our goals in conjunction with that for the year, and Taylor wanted to go to see every city in Missouri. So I asked her what she wanted to do in every city, and she wanted to go see the mayors and learn about the cities that way,” says Therese Duncan.
“We got a request in email, and I said ‘sure I’ll be happy to take the time.’ Taylor showed up with her family, so we came down here to have a little ice cream together,” says Gary Shaw.
Duncan has already been to numerous cities and even attended a conference in Branson.
