The National Association of Insurance Commissioners data shows insurance in Oklahoma has seen an almost 80% increase since 2007. One of the reasons is due to the natural disasters that are prone to hit the state. Local insurance agent Nick Hofschulte says when a catastrophe occurs, insurance companies have to disperse their loss throughout the entire state. However, he says there are some things you can do to help prevent these increased costs.
“Best advice I can give is to only claim on something that’s catastrophic, that’s the way that insurance is designed. The least claims you have in your history, the better your rate will be,” Hofschulte says.
He also recommends looking at things like roof styles on your home. He says metal roofs often times gives you a discount at most insurance sites due to its high durability.
