Hit Broadway show performed in area, benefits local Humane Societies

“CATS,” the Broadway musical production was performed while four state residents were given a chance to help out a good cause Sunday.

The Midwest Regional Ballet put on the show “CATS” based on short shoties written about their characteristics.

The stories were later combined with music, and quickly became a huge hit across the globe.

Those that attended Sunday were able to support the SEK and Joplin Humane Societies as well as Snowflake’s Snack Shake program.

Pet food donations were collected for the Shack and money was donated for the Humane Societies.

Artistic director Katy Lewis is hoping everyone was able to see the beauty of small town productions.

Lewis says, “That they leave with a sense that we have amazing talent in this community, we really do. I’ve had several people stop me and say, ‘Oh, I saw this on Broadway’ or ‘I saw this in London and this is just as good or not better.'”

Lewis’s next big performance is “Newsies” for the Pittsburg Community Theatre.

They will be having auditions for those that may be interested on May 20 and 21.
