Highway 66 in Cherokee County Closed Due to Fatal Crash

UPDATE:    Just before 7 o’clock tonight, the Cherokee County Sherriff’s office was called to an accident on Highway 66 West of Galena.

   The Kansas Highway Patrol also was on scene.

   The accident closed three lanes of traffic, including both east bound lanes for hours.

   Cherokee County Sherriff David Groves says this stretch of highway has become dangerus for pedestrians.

“This is the, when you count that double fatality, this is the fourth fatality within this ,ile and a half two mile stretch involving pedestrians or cyclists. Within about the last year and a half to two years.”  said David Groves The Cherokee County Sherriff.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the deceased at this time.

Highway 66 between Galena and Riverton is closed to through traffic as emergency crews work a car crash that resulted in a pedestrian fatality.

Cherokee County Sherriff David Groves says the road is expected to be close for several more hours while crews clean up the scene.

The Cherokee County Sherriff’s Department and Kansas State Highway Patrol were both working on the scene.
