One organization is helping displaced Cherokee county children find temporary housing.
Care Portal will be working with area law enforcement and churches to connect these kids with a caring home.
The organization explains there is an overwhelming need for local children to have a place to go,
Given the circumstance that law enforcement has removed them from their parents’ custody. The new program would keep children in the care of a “protective home” in Cherokee county for up to 72 hours.
As otherwise these children could be sent to a shelter far from home. Sarah Poteat, the regional manager for SEK Care Portal, says, “Because we have such a shortage of foster homes, a lot of times those children have to a shelter in Andover. And so we’re hoping to address that issue.”
This program has already been implemented in Crawford County and has been very successful.
