An area health system has opened a clinic specifically to help treat patients with eating disorders.
It’s called the “Reconnect Eating Disorders Clinic” and is operated by Ozark Center, a division of the Freeman Health System. The outpatient program provides treatment for those with anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. Dr. Jenny Copeland says the clinic consists of a group of professionals with a variety of backgrounds that take a team approach to treating victims.
“This is a deadly illness, you know girls between the ages of 15 and 24 are 12 times more likely to die from anorexia than any other cause of death, so we don’t take any chances with the damage this can do to someone’s body,” says Dr. Jenny Copeland, Ozark Center Clinical Psychologist.
Copeland claims this is the only clinic of its type in the area. In order to get this kind of help, she says a patient used to have to go to a major city.
