You’ve probably heard about an organization called St. Jude, but you may not know what services they provide and who they help. That organization held a special ceremony today in the Joplin area.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital may be located in Tennessee, but they have in the past, and continue to help Four State children to this day battling cancer. Soon, you’ll be able to help that organization raise money, and possibly win the home of your dreams at the same time.
Schuber Mitchell has been building homes in Southwest Missouri since 2011. But there’s something different about this one. For one lucky person, it will only cost $100 dollars, yes you heard that right, one hundred dollars.
“We’re selling six thousand five hundred tickets to sell away this house so that all proceeds benefit St. Jude’s, six hundred and fifty thousand dollars,” says Sydney Watson, Regional Development Director, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The home, located at 1752 Kent Drive, in Anderson Estates in Webb City, is nearing completion. But before that happens, the organization held a floor signing. Among those taking part is Brian Mather, who’s daughter was treated for a form of leukemia when she was 2 and a half years old. He says, even with insurance, it easily could have bankrupted the family, but thanks to St. Jude, it didn’t cost them a dime.
“Thank you so much for what you’ve done for my family, what you’ve done for thousands of other families, because it means more than what you’ll ever know, I promise you, especially when it comes to our own children, so thank you,” says Brian Mather.
Several years later, Mather’s daughter is a happy, healthy, high school senior and has been in remission for years. The organization picks up 100 percent of cost of the care for children they treat, including some of her treatments she received at Freeman Hospital.
The survival rate for children with cancer has gone from only 20% when St. Jude Research Hospital was founded, all the way up to 80% today. Keep watching KSN and KODE for a sneak preview of additional prizes you could win by reserving your ticket on February 28th.
