A local public safety department introduces its newest members.
Five new firefighters in Joplin received their badges during a ceremony at the department’s new training training center today. Joplin Fire Chief Jim Furgerson says each of them have successfully completed all their training and are ready to start their new career.
Jim Furgerson, Joplin Fire Chief: “Recently we changed the way we hire so we’re doing a lot more teaching where I hire the right attitude and then train those skills. We’re seeing a lot more of that, so our academy lasts a little longer. They last anywhere from 12 to 18 weeks.”
Furgerson says this is the second firefighter class to graduate from the new public safety training center. Several other existing employees received promotions as part of the event.
