Monett, Mo - Firefighters spend the day out of the heat and in the classroom to learn about a different profession within their field.
Crowder College kicked off it's Fire Service Instructor One course at Scott Regional Technology Center in Monett.
Today is the first of a four day course that teaches firefighters how to be instructors.
Students learn about intructional methodology and setting up a classroom.
When the course is complete and exams are passed, their instructor certifications will be valid in every state.
"Hopefully we can inspire students to become and firefighters to become fire instructors so they can pass their knowlege on ... So they can inspire more people to become firefighters. We've got a kind of a serious shortage in staffing especially for volunteer departments." says Shane Anderson, Crowder College Adjunct Professor
Anderson continues to say, he's excited to see what this program will mean for firefighters and for citizens in the region.
