FCC asks phone carriers to fight against robocalls

A federal agency is asking phone carriers to join the fight against illegal robocalls.

F.C.C. Chairman Ajit Pai has issued a statement demanding the phone industry adopt systems to combat illegal caller I.D. spoofing and have it ready to go next year.

Pai says ending the spoof calls is a top priority of the Federal Communications Commission. He’s asking providers to implement technology that would identify the illegal calls and block them.

Pai says he expects the effort to move forward quickly.
