Erie Police Department issues voluntary evacuation ahead of potential flooding

The Neosho River near Erie will be reach 40’ to 41’ tomorrow afternoon, 05/22/2019, and is expected to stay at that level for at least 24 hours. 

For reference, the river reached 40.6’ during the flood of 2007.

Low lying areas, such as 4th Street and all streets south of 4th Street, as well as anyone affected during the flood of 2007 should be aware of the good possibility of flooding. 

This is a voluntary evacuation.

There will be a strictly enforced curfew, starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22nd, at 9:00 pm and each night thereafter, beginning at 9:00 pm, until further notice.

The Erie High School will be opened, time to be determined, for those misplaced by the flooding. There will be no animals permitted into the High School, please make arrangements with friends or families to keep them.

We have been given a short, but advanced notice of the expected flooding conditions, please make arrangements as soon as possible.

We will update as much as possible during this time.
