The men and women who are first in line to protect and serve are being recognized for their efforts.

The 2nd Annual Emergency Responders Lunch was held at the Joplin Public Safety Training Center Friday. Several local groups banded together to offer a free meal with steak and all the trimmings. The lunch honored police, deputies, fire fighters, dispatchers and more.

“I think our community does a great job of showing that appreciation to us throughout the year. This is just a time we take a really remember those officers that have given the ultimate sacrifice,” says JPD Chief Matt Stewart.

The emergency responders lunch is held as part of National Police Week, which wraps up Saturday.
