Electric rates may be getting more expensive for Kansas customers

The price of power may be getting more expensive for some Kansas customers.

Empire District Electric Company is asking to raise rates for its base in the Sunflower State. It would mean a monthly increase of about $20 dollars for those using one thousand kilowatt hours.

The request hopes to recover the cost of environmental upgrades and power plant improvements. If approved, it would be the first rate hike for Kansas customers since 2012.
