This weekends Pow-Wow started off with an elder’s breakfast.
Members then came out to the Wyandotte pow-wow grounds to perform gourd dancing.
This dancing honors veterans and the elders.
Later in the evening there was a contest for men’s dancing and the winners from the various competitions were announced.
“I just think we have a large homecoming there is a lot of Eastern Shawnee tribal members that come home for the Pow-Wow…We start on Thursday night and then we go to Monday.” said Travis Patton, Eastern Shawnee tribe of Oklahoma
Patton adds the tribe works to make this an event not only for members of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe, but for the native community as well.
