Crowder College gives scholarships to top performing welders in Skills USA competition

Local students participating in a tech event go home with more than just memories.

They’re getting some money to head to further their education. The welding portion of the Southwest District Skills USA competition is being held inside the Advanced Training and Technology Center in Joplin. Crowder College is hosting the event and gave out scholarship money for the top welding performers.

“The top scholarship will be an estimated value of over eighteen hundred dollars for the first semester, the second place will be awarded eight hundred dollar scholarship and then the third place four hundred dollar scholarship to be used here at the Joplin Advanced Training Center,” says Melissa Smith, Crowder Director of Enrollment & Regional Center.

Hundreds of dollars in equipment and Crowder clothing were also handed out to participating students.
